Despite vowing to avoid red-eyes, I was also keen on avoiding connections, and ended up flying Wednesday after clinic to land in ORD Thursday morning. Fortunately, I made the smart move to book an extra\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyatt.com\/en-US\/hotel\/illinois\/hyatt-regency-mccormick-place\/chimc?src=adm_sem_crp_chico_crp_ppc_NAM-UnitedStates-IL-Chicago-HR-CHIMC_google_Evergreen2022_e_hyatt%20regency%20mccormick%20place&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwtKmaBhBMEiwAyINuwM3Hcvr-EPvf30Xvt-QrrywLfRq9poIs1IPgzZ_fuyYcHj5Fdf4iJRoCufcQAvD_BwE\">hotel<\/a> night which gave me a few hours of shut-eye before lunch. The sketchy walk to Chinatown rewarded me with hearty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slurpslurpnoodles.com\/\">Slurp Slurp Noodles<\/a> and baked goods from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cqbakery.com\/\">Chiu Quon Bakery<\/a> to fuel the pig eye injection wet lab at <a href=\"https:\/\/hospital.uillinois.edu\/patients-and-visitors\/locations-and-directions\/eye-and-ear-infirmary\">UIC<\/a>. For dinner, I unwittingly opted for fish at a <a href=\"https:\/\/shulassteakhouse.com\/\">steak house<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/adverum.com\/\">Adverum<\/a> steering committee, but enjoyed my colleague rapping on the cab ride back. I managed to attend most of the first Retina <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aao.org\/annual-meeting\/education\/retina\">Subspecialty Day<\/a>, with only a break for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minghincuisine.com\/home\">dim sum<\/a> with ex-fellows, and ended the day with industry functions, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michelsfoundation.org\/\">Michels<\/a> reception, and a dip in the hotel pool. Saturday included investor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedearborntavern.com\/\">lunches<\/a> where I spent more time waxing poetic on clinical trial data than ingesting food, my talk on gene therapy inflammation, and catching up with friends at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccormickandschmicks.com\/\">MEEI<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radissonhotelsamericas.com\/en-us\/hotels\/radisson-blu-chicago-aqua\">UCD<\/a> alumni receptions. After my OCT course and shooting an <a href=\"https:\/\/eyetube.net\/meeting-coverage\/aao-2022\/ocular-inflammation-in-retinal-gene-therapies\">EyeTube video<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday, I headed for some <a href=\"https:\/\/qxydumplings.com\/\">Qing Xiang Yuan dumplings<\/a> which were definitely worth the wait in line and another visit in the future. I managed to avoid socializing with colleagues and residents on the return flight, giving me time to catch up with work before another work week begins.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Feeling overworked recently, I kept my trip to AAO in Chicago fairly simple this year.
