Shortly after the DC trip, I flew to La Jolla for a day to present my work at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scripps.edu\/\">Scripps<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myalcon.com\/research-development\/alcon-research-institute\/young-investigator.shtml\">Alcon Research Institute Young Investigator Award<\/a> symposium. Luckily, the flight was short, and my <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/travel\/trusted-traveler-programs\/global-entry\">Global Entry<\/A> membership arrived just in time to facilitate airport security. The company also helped make things easy by arranging for airport transfers to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.hilton.com\/en\/hotels\/california\/hilton-la-jolla-torrey-pines-SANTPHH\/index.html\">hotel<\/a> complete with black Mercedes and black-tie drivers. Dinner was generic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lodgetorreypines.com\/\">fare<\/a>, although I did enjoy rubbing elbows with leaders in the field. I returned home for less than 24 hours to spend time with my family and get some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/asian-pearl-2009-sacramento-2\">dim sum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/pegasus-bakery-and-cafe-sacramento\">baked goods<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.99ranch.com\/\">groceries<\/a>, before hitting the road again for my flight to Japan. We also broke out our new copy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unchartedthegame.com\/en-us\/games\/uncharted-4\">Uncharted 4<\/a>, where Nathan Drake&#8217;s newest adventure continues to wow us with action-packed cinematography and impressive voice-acting. While my hectic travel schedule will not be as exciting, I look forward to some novel dining experiences in the days ahead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This month&#8217;s travel has been very hectic.
