With clinic canceled, I drove up on Friday in time to share tender seared scallops &amp; cumin-y lamb meatballs at <a href=\"http:\/\/reddnapavalley.com\/\">Redd<\/a> for lunch. After dropping some cash for macarons at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomaskeller.com\/yountville-california\/bouchon-bakery\">Bouchon Bakery<\/a>, I quickly changed in the car and arrived at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marriott.com\/hotels\/travel\/sfonp-napa-valley-marriott-hotel-and-spa\/\">hotel<\/a> just in time to catch the first session. For dinner, we went to <a href=\"http:\/\/oenotri.com\/\">Oenotri<\/a> for speedy, efficient service and delicious Southern Italian fare including a salumi plate, a fava bean pizza, and mushroom tagliatelle. I awoke early Saturday for my morning presentation, but ducked out early for lunch at <a href=\"http:\/\/morimotonapa.com\/\">Morimoto Napa<\/a>, where the dense bone marrow appetizer and heavy sea urchin carbonara was offset by a chirashi rice bowl that was a feast for both our eyes and taste buds. In the afternoon, we were overwhelmed by the tradesmen and exhibitors at the <a href=\"http:\/\/napahomeshow.com\/\">Napa Home &amp; Garden Show<\/a>, and decided instead to unwind with a matinee showing of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2848292\/\">Pitch Perfect 2<\/a> before heading to the faculty dinner at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.botteganapavalley.com\/\">Bottega<\/a>. We drove back home on Sunday to check out a few friends&#8217; houses with recent renovations, before firming up our design plans with our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designbymisha.com\/\">designer<\/a> for our upcoming kitchen and bathroom remodels. With our new outdoor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/us\/en\/catalog\/categories\/series\/24466\/\">patio set<\/a>, and a mid-century modern dining set from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bryght.com\/product\/712\/conan-round-dining-table\">Bryght<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overstock.com\/Home-Garden\/Set-of-2-Lavin-Mid-Century-Solid-Wood-Dining-Chair\/10152332\/product.html?refccid=L57XDMXUTCRYQ5KCF2UCTWUMQE&amp;searchidx=0\">Overstock<\/a>, we finally feel our home starting to come together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our department&#8217;s annual symposium takes place in Napa, which gave me an excuse to bring my wife along for the weekend to indulge in the culinary mecca.
