{"id":217,"date":"2006-10-02T00:38:50","date_gmt":"2006-10-02T00:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/updates.xephalon.net\/?p=217"},"modified":"2006-10-02T00:38:50","modified_gmt":"2006-10-02T00:38:50","slug":"touching-brain-neuroscience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xephalon.net\/updates\/2006\/10\/02\/touching-brain-neuroscience\/","title":{"rendered":"Touching brain &#038; Neuroscience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of my neurosurgery elective week last Friday, just as we were about to close a craniotomy, the resident grabbed my hand and poked the exposed brain. &#8220;There,&#8221; he said, &#8220;you&#8217;ve just touched brain; you are now doomed to be a neurosurgeon.&#8221; I have to admit that neurosurgery is pretty cool&#8230; but considering that it&#8217;s the only residency with an exception to the 80-hour rule, I&#8217;m not sure if the lifestyle is really meant for me. Speaking of brains, I have another co-authored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jneurosci.org\/cgi\/content\/abstract\/26\/38\/9794\">paper<\/a> which recently came out in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jneurosci.org\">Journal of Neuroscience<\/a>. We made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jneurosci.org\/content\/vol26\/issue38\/cover.shtml\">cover<\/a> again, but since I had no hand in its design, I can honestly say that it is pretty ugly. Also, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyas.org\">NYAS<\/a> has published an online briefing of the axon regeneration meeting I presented at last March (see link at the bottom of <a href=\"acads.php\">this page<\/a>). They also included an audio recording of the talk.
